You can't count on arriving at MMCA Deoksugung near its 21:00 closing. The museum sits inside Deoksugung Palace, so you pass the palace gate first. According to the MMCA Deoksugung visitor information page (retrieved 2026-11-03), the museum runs 10:00 to 21:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the palace gate closes to entry at 20:00 even on those late nights. Get through the palace gate before 20:00, then buy or show your museum admission separately.

Three entries with three sets of hours

Deoksugung has nested operators. The palace grounds, the historic building interiors and the art museum each keep their own hours.

  • Palace grounds: 09:00 to 21:00, last entry 20:00, per the Korea Tourism Organization's Deoksugung page (retrieved 2026-11-03). The palace closes on Mondays, with adjustments around public holidays.
  • Building interiors: Seokjojeon, Dondeokjeon and Jungmyeongjeon have separate, earlier opening and last-entry limits on the same KTO page. A palace evening ticket leaves those interiors on their own schedule.
  • MMCA Deoksugung: 10:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday; 10:00 to 21:00 on Wednesday and Saturday. The museum closes on Mondays and on January 1, per MMCA.

The museum's later closing time leaves the 20:00 palace gate cutoff in place. On a Wednesday or Saturday, entering the grounds at 19:30 gives you up to 90 minutes in the galleries. Arriving at 20:15 leaves you outside the gate.

Two tickets, paid separately

The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center admission rules (retrieved 2026-11-03) state that the Deoksugung art museum ticket and the palace ticket are bought separately. MMCA's own page confirms that palace admission isn't included in the museum fee. A free or discounted museum session leaves the palace ticket price unchanged, so budget for both unless a palace free-admission rule covers you.

The Center lists free-admission and age rules that require proof, and nationality can change the age bands. Its current page lists culture-day free general palace access every Wednesday, excluding Gyeongbokgung and the Changdeokgung Garden. MMCA's last-Wednesday culture day is a separate museum rule, so check each operator's terms against your date and carry ID. Standing, multi-use and integrated ticket products have their own named coverage. A pass covers only the venues it names.

Order your evening around confirmed access

The following is a suggested way to organize the trip, built from the hours above. It isn't an official schedule.

  1. Confirm the exhibition. MMCA notes that special exhibitions and exemptions differ, and exhibition-specific notices take priority over the general hours.
  2. Check for temporary closures or holiday changes on the MMCA and palace pages close to your date.
  3. Pick a Wednesday or Saturday if you want more than an hour in the galleries after work.
  4. Plan to pass the palace gate by about 19:30 so the 20:00 cutoff doesn't decide your visit.
  5. Fit flexible stops, such as shopping, around that fixed window.
