To check a shopping route on Seoul's city Wi-Fi, stand in a covered public spot, pick the network named SEOUL_Secure, and enter the ID seoul and the password seoul. Those settings come from the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Free Wi-Fi page (Korean, updated 16 October 2026, retrieved 3 November 2026). Coverage stops where the city's access points stop, so load your route while you're still connected.
Where SEOUL_Secure works
The city lists installed public spaces as the coverage area: streets, markets, parks, bus stops, tourist attractions, cultural facilities, and city and local buses, according to the SMG Free Wi-Fi page. The same page says the service isn't guaranteed everywhere. Shops, cafés and pharmacies run their own networks or none, and a private business appearing near a covered street tells you nothing about its Wi-Fi.
One way to organize this: open your map at a bus stop or market entrance where the network appears, check the next leg of your route, and save the destination before you walk out of range. Keeping a saved offline destination is a separate step from the connection itself.
SEOUL_Secure vs. the open SEOUL network
Seoul runs two network names, and they behave differently.
| Network name | How you join | Reconnection | Security (per city page) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEOUL_Secure | ID seoul, password seoul | Reconnects automatically after the first successful connection | WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise, chosen according to what your device supports |
| SEOUL | Tap the general connection button on the landing page | Manual button press each time | Open network |

Choose SEOUL_Secure for route checks. The city describes it as an encrypted connection with automatic reconnection, so you skip the landing-page tap at every bus stop. The city's system selects WPA2 or WPA3 according to what your phone supports, so leave that setting on automatic.
Settings to keep on, and when to stop
A network name can be copied by anyone, so a matching name alone doesn't prove a hotspot belongs to the city. If your phone shows an unexpected certificate prompt or warning, don't accept it on the strength of the name. Check the current instructions on the official city page or call the city help line first. Older guides circulated a step telling you to skip certificate validation; leave validation on and ignore those guides. Encryption on a public network still leaves some risk, and the city page doesn't promise otherwise.
Stop and disconnect if a page on the network asks for a passport number, card details, a home login or a payment. The published settings need only seoul and seoul. Check any other prompt against the city help line before you type anything.
If the connection fails
Work through these in order:
- Confirm the network name reads SEOUL_Secure, keeping in mind that the name by itself isn't proof of legitimacy.
- Re-enter
seoulfor both ID and password. - Move closer to the bus stop, market or park access point, since you may be at the edge of range.
- As a short fallback, join the open SEOUL network and press the connection button.
- Call the city's public Wi-Fi integrated management line, 02-2133-0022, listed on the SMG page.
City Wi-Fi doesn't replace roaming or a local SIM, and the city doesn't guarantee uninterrupted service.
If your route includes a shopping stop, the official store page for PVRE Pharmacy, listed as PURE PHARMACY, gives branch addresses including Myeongdong (서울특별시 중구 명동8길 41) and Seongsu (서울특별시 성동구 성수이로20길 3). The store describes general pharmacist conversation about medicines and health alongside health and beauty products. That page doesn't state Wi-Fi, hours or stock, and questions about networks belong with the city line above.
Evidence and criteria
- Network names, credentials, protocols, coverage types and the 02-2133-0022 contact come from the Seoul Metropolitan Government Free Wi-Fi page, updated 16 October 2026 and retrieved 3 November 2026. They apply to Seoul's city network only.
- WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise selection is the city's description; it isn't a security guarantee.
- Store addresses and the pharmacist-conversation description come from the PURE PHARMACY stores page, retrieved 3 November 2026. That page doesn't cover Wi-Fi, hours, stock or prices.
- Route-check timing and the order of troubleshooting steps are this article's suggested organization, separate from the city's instructions.
