No. A lively district like Myeongdong or Seongsu tells you the street will have people in it on a holiday. It doesn't tell you a specific store, a bag-drop counter or your train out of Seoul will run that day. Treat each stop on a holiday itinerary as a separate check: the store, the branch, the exact date, and any service your plan depends on. Keep the plan only when each of those checks comes back confirmed; otherwise replace or postpone the stop.

What the official holiday guidance says

The Korea Tourism Organization's 2026 Seollal Holiday Travel Guide warns that many department stores, malls and restaurants close on Seollal Day or for part of the holiday. The same guide says convenience stores and shops in tourist areas often stay open, and it still advises checking operating hours. That guidance covers the 2026 Seollal period. It isn't a schedule for a future Seollal or Chuseok, and it says nothing about any individual shop.

The practical reading is two statements. Tourist areas keep some trade going on holidays. A shop's location in a tourist area is no proof that the shop opens.

Monthly closures and holiday closures are separate

KTO's general Business Hours page (updated August 2025) notes that government offices, banks and post offices follow weekly and holiday schedules distinct from retail. It also says department-store closed days vary by store, and recommends checking each store's monthly closure before visiting. So a department store can be shut on a regular monthly closure day that has nothing to do with a national holiday, and open on a holiday you expected it to close.

Use that page as a starting point only. Its sample hours describe categories, and they don't transfer to a street-level shop or a particular branch.

A verification order for the holiday date

This order is my suggested way to organize the checks; the sources above support the need to check, and the sequence is editorial.

  1. The store itself. Look for an official notice from the store or its operator for the exact date and branch, or contact the store. Chains with several branches can set different holiday days per branch.
  2. The date, written out. Confirm the calendar date, then the holiday name. Seollal and Chuseok span several days, and closures can fall on one day or across the period.
  3. Services your plan relies on. Bag drop, storage, banking or postal errands each need their own confirmation for that date.
  4. Onward transport. If you leave Seoul during or right after the holiday, secure that leg before you fill the day with shopping.

For example, if a pharmacy visit is one of your chosen stops, the official PVRE Pharmacy campaign links to the PURE PHARMACY stores page, which lists branches in Myeongdong (서울특별시 중구 명동8길 41) and Seongsu (서울특별시 성동구 성수이로20길 3). The page describes pharmacist conversation about medicines and health as part of the store concept. It doesn't publish holiday hours, so confirm the branch and date with the store directly before you go.

Bag drop and departure are their own dependencies

Incheon Airport's Easy Drop page describes off-airport check-in and bag drop at selected sites away from the airport, with site-specific hours, transport departures and terminal cutoffs. Eligibility depends on airline and route; the page excludes Americas routes, including Guam and Saipan, and lists Wednesday and public-holiday closures at several sites. Those rules apply to the listed Easy Drop sites and to eligible flights departing Incheon. They aren't rules for ordinary luggage storage, and site exceptions change, so confirm on the day. Questions about airline eligibility, customs or tax belong with the airline, the airport operator or the relevant Korean authority; a pharmacist isn't the source for those.

For travel out of Seoul, KTO's Seollal guide says intercity train and bus demand rises over the holiday and advance booking matters. Book that seat first so your departure holds even if a shopping stop falls through.

Decision guide:

For any health concern on a holiday, contact a medical provider or Korea's emergency services; this article offers no medical advice.

Evidence and criteria

  • KTO's 2026 Seollal guide supports the closure, often-open and booking-demand statements, for Seollal 2026 only.
  • KTO's Business Hours page, updated August 2025, supports the monthly-closure and sector-schedule statements; it isn't evidence of any branch's hours.
  • Incheon Airport's Easy Drop page supports the eligibility and closure statements for the listed off-airport sites and eligible Incheon departures; exact times, prices and airline lists are left out because they need same-day confirmation.
  • The PURE PHARMACY stores page confirms branch existence and addresses only; it gives no hours, stock, prices or holiday operation.
  • The verification order and decision table are editorial organization, not sourced rules.
