No. Parking a Seoul Bike (Ttareungi) outside a shop or at a shop's bike rack leaves your rental open. End the rental through the operator's return process: lock the bike at a Seoul Public Bike rental station and check your smartphone for the return confirmation message before you walk away. The current Seoul Bike app and its station map control where and how a return works, so open the app before you lock up.
Your pass and your rental run on separate clocks
The Seoul Metropolitan Government's English page for the service (About the Service, retrieved 2026-11-03) separates two time limits for Seoul Public Bike:
- Pass validity. The rental period for a pass is calculated from the time of the first rental. The page's example: a one-day pass bought at 1 PM and first used at 3 PM stays valid until 3 PM the following day.
- Per-rental time. A General pass gives 60 minutes for every rental. A Premium pass gives 120 minutes for every rental. Extra charges start after that time.
An active pass doesn't extend a single rental. The same page states that you can ride all day without extra charges by returning the bike within the rental time and renting again. It also states that a bike not returned within 4 hours (General) or 6 hours (Premium) is considered stolen or lost and is reported to the police, and that you can't rent again until unpaid extra charges are paid.
This article leaves out per-minute fee amounts and newer pass types. The page lists fee and pass details, and some carry launch dates, so check the live app for current prices and options.
A hypothetical shopping stop
This example is hypothetical and uses no reported prices. You start a General rental at 2:00 PM, ride 25 minutes, and park at a shop's bike rack at 2:25 PM. You browse for an hour. The bike sits locked to a rack, but the app never sent a return confirmation, so the rental is still running. The 60-minute rental time ends at 3:00 PM, and the operator page says extra charges apply after that point, so your stop runs into extra charges after 3:00 PM. A longer stop moves the open rental toward the 4-hour stolen-or-lost threshold.
In the same scenario with a station return at 2:25 PM and a confirmation on your phone, the rental closes. Your one-day pass stays valid. When you leave the shop, you can try to start a new rental if a bike is available at a station and the current app allows it.
Return sequence before a long stop
The operator's How To Use Seoul Bike page (marked "as of Oct. 2023", retrieved 2026-11-03) lists the return as two steps: pull on the lock to lock the bike, then check your smartphone for the return confirmation message. Here is a suggested order for a shopping trip, built on those steps:
- In the current app, find a public bike rental station near the shop.
- Lock the bike at that station as the current app instructs.
- Read the return confirmation on your phone. Treat the rental as finished only after it appears.
- If no confirmation arrives, call the Seoul Bike operation center at 1599-0120, the number the operator lists for return problems. Shop staff can't confirm a public bike return.
None of the sources show bikes available at any station at any time. After shopping, the station may have no bike to rent, so plan a walking or subway route back.
Where a pharmacy stop fits
With the bike returned and confirmed, a shopping stop runs off the rental clock. If your route passes Myeongdong (서울특별시 중구 명동8길 41) or Seongsu (서울특별시 성동구 성수이로20길 3), PVRE Pharmacy, listed officially as PURE PHARMACY, describes itself as a pharmacy that puts conversation with a pharmacist first and lets you browse health and beauty products in person; see the official store list. That listing covers addresses and a general store concept. It gives no hours, stock or nearby bike station. The pharmacy has no role in Seoul Bike returns, fees or disputes. Take those to the operation center.
Evidence and criteria
- Rental times, pass validity, stolen-or-lost thresholds and the 1599-0120 support line come from the Seoul city operator page About the Service, retrieved 2026-11-03. The page includes pass types with launch dates and fee details; this article leaves them out.
- The return steps come from the operator's How To Use page, labelled "as of Oct. 2023". The current app may differ.
- The hypothetical timeline and the suggested return order are this article's organization of the operator rules. They aren't operator text.
- The store mention relies only on the official PURE PHARMACY store listing, which shows addresses and a general concept.
