Buy the one-day Climate Card short-term pass only when your planned covered fares for the day add up to more than its cost. Per the Seoul Metropolitan Government Climate Card page (retrieved November 3, 2026), the 1-day pass costs KRW 5,000. A physical card costs a separate KRW 3,000. If you already hold a Climate Card, your comparison point is KRW 5,000. If you need a new physical card, it is KRW 8,000. Map every leg first, add up what you would pay per ride, and pick the lower number.
What the pass is in November 2026
The same official page states that the 30-day prepaid Climate Card could be recharged only until August 31, 2026. Existing cards can still be recharged with 1-, 2-, 3-, 5- and 7-day short-term passes. Advice built on the 30-day product is out of date.
The page also describes a separate Climate Pass, which it lists as scheduled for release on September 1, 2026. The page states the Climate Pass is available to Seoul residents, with eligibility based on place of residence. It runs through a participating card issuer and K-Pass registration, with benefits starting the following month. A short shopping visit belongs in the short-term pass comparison.
Check your route before you price it
Coverage effective October 1, 2026, per the Seoul Metropolitan Government, includes:
- Subways within Seoul, including Gimpo Airport Station.
- Seoul-licensed city and town buses, including late-night and circular buses, even when you board or alight outside Seoul.
- Alighting at Incheon Airport T1 or T2 on the Airport Railroad after boarding inside the coverage area. Boarding at those airport stations is excluded.
Excluded: the Sinbundang Line, GTX, subway stations outside Seoul, express and airport buses, and buses licensed in other regions. If you ride from a covered station to one outside the area, the page says staff collect the fare from the boarding station at the alighting station. Write down each boarding and alighting station and each bus operator, and pay excluded legs separately in your total. The official coverage search tool is Korean only.
Timing, cards and payment
- The charging date is the start date. A 1-day pass runs from the 4:00 AM first train to the last train that day. Advance charging isn't available, so charge on the morning of your shopping day.
- Physical cards are sold at vending machines inside Seoul Metro stations on Lines 1 to 8 and at convenience stores near Line 9, Ui-Sinseol and Sillim Line stations. Charging kiosks accept cash or a domestic credit/debit card. Mobile cards require Android 12+ and a domestic card or bank transfer in your name.
- The short-term pass excludes Seoul Bike and the Hangang Bus.
- Register a physical card on the Tmoney Card & Pay website. Unregistered cards can't get refunds. Refunds equal charged amount minus usage minus a KRW 500 fee, requested before expiry.
A hypothetical worked decision
These figures are invented for illustration. They aren't quoted fares. Suppose your covered legs total KRW 6,000 for the day. With an existing Climate Card, the KRW 5,000 pass saves KRW 1,000. With a new physical card, KRW 8,000 costs KRW 2,000 more, so pay per ride. Excluded legs cost the same either way. Base the comparison on journeys you already plan to take. Rides added afterward to justify the card leave your original fare total unchanged, so they don't change the decision.
If your plan already includes Myeongdong, one optional stop is PVRE Pharmacy, listed as PURE PHARMACY at 서울특별시 중구 명동8길 41 on the official store page. The store page describes pharmacist conversation about medicines and health and in-person browsing of health and beauty products. Confirm your transit route with the transit authority. Customs, tax, aviation and medical eligibility questions go to the relevant authorities.
Evidence and criteria
Costs, coverage, timing and refund rules come from the Seoul Metropolitan Government Climate Card page, retrieved November 3, 2026. That source doesn't list single-journey fares, so this article gives no break-even ride count. The comparison uses your own planned fare total. Store details come only from the Pure Wellness store page. They confirm addresses and general pharmacist service. They don't confirm products, prices, stock or hours.
