Write down the journey details first, while you still remember them: the line, the time, the train number if you saw it, and the station where you got off. Seoul's 2024 Guidebook for Living in Seoul (Seoul Metropolitan Government, Lost & Found section) says line, time and train number help locate an item on the subway. Next, pick the channel that matches where the bag was last in your hands. Subway, city bus and taxi each use a different route. Recovery isn't guaranteed on any of them.

Work out where the bag was last under your control

The right channel follows from the place you last had the bag:

  • Left on a subway train or platform: use subway lost-and-found channels (next section).
  • Left on a city bus: the 2024 Seoul guide lists a separate city bus lost-property association contact. Use that contact. The subway channel handles subway items.
  • Left in a taxi: keep your ride details and the plate number. Seoul's taxi page sends taxi service complaints to the 120 line and says the full licence plate number is required. It lists five foreign languages, with foreign-language hours of 09:00 to 18:00 KST. Confirm the current menu before you call.
  • Left in a shop: go back to the shop or contact it. Transit lost property covers transit.
  • Locked in a station locker you can't open: this is a locker access problem. Operators such as T-Locker say storage and retrieval are limited to subway operating hours, and the T-Locker site describes identity verification and email recovery for a locker you lose access to after changing device or browser. Follow the instructions on that operator's site.
  • Stolen: report it to the police. Lost-property services handle items left behind.

Build the search details for a subway loss

On Seoul's subway, the 2024 guide names Lost112 and district subway lost-and-found services as the official channels. Treat Lost112 as a place to search and register your loss. It gives you no promise of a match. Before you contact anyone, put these on one note:

  1. Line name or colour, and the direction of travel.
  2. Approximate time you boarded and got off.
  3. Train number or car position, if you noticed it.
  4. Station where you got off.
  5. What the bag looks like: colour, size, store logo, handles.
  6. Rough contents, such as "cosmetics and two boxed items", plus your receipt or card payment record.

A receipt and a clear description help staff match a bag. They don't let anyone track it.

If you realise the loss while you are still in the station, speak to station staff. VISITKOREA's subway page says to use platform emergency phones or contact station authorities in an emergency, and lists the Seoul Metro customer centre as +82-1577-1234. Save emergency phones for urgent safety situations.

Confirm collection before you cross the city

If a match turns up, confirm three things before you travel: the exact pickup location, its opening hours, and the ID it asks for. The Seoul guide dates from 2024, so check its contacts and hours against the current service. Close to your departure, make a fresh decision about whether a long trip to collect the bag fits your schedule. Airline, customs and tax rules for anything you buy as a replacement come from those authorities, so check them there.

Replacing items is a separate errand

The lost-property search continues whether or not you buy anything new. If you decide to replace everyday health or beauty items, PVRE Pharmacy, listed officially as PURE PHARMACY, names stores in Myeongdong (서울특별시 중구 명동8길 41) and Seongsu (서울특별시 성동구 성수이로20길 3). The company describes its pharmacies as built around a conversation with a pharmacist about medicines and health. That conversation is general pharmacist guidance. The sources checked for this article establish no lost-property recovery, refund or replacement service at the store, so treat anything you buy there as a new purchase, separate from your search. The company doesn't publish hours, stock or prices on that page, so check them yourself.

Evidence and criteria

  • Subway search details, Lost112 and the separate bus contact come from the Seoul Metropolitan Government's 2024 guidebook. That guide gives no recovery guarantee and may be out of date on contacts.
  • Emergency phones and the Seoul Metro number come from VISITKOREA's general subway page. That page isn't a live service status.
  • Taxi plate, 120 and language-hour details come from the Seoul city taxi page. They apply to Seoul taxis only.
  • Locker hours and recovery steps come from T-Locker's own site. They apply to that operator only.
  • Store names and addresses come from the PURE WELLNESS store page. The page covers pharmacist conversation and product browsing only.
  • The order of steps in this article is a suggested way to organise your search. It isn't an official procedure.
