The answer: confirm the exact branch and its full Korean street address before you request the ride, then check that the map pin in your app sits on that address. An English shop name can match several branches or similarly named businesses across Seoul, so the driver or app can route you to the wrong one. A short destination card built in advance closes that gap.

Build a destination card before you leave

The card is our suggested way to organize the trip. It's editorial advice, not a government requirement. It rests on one documented fact: the VISITKOREA ride-hailing guide (Korea Tourism Organization, retrieved October 2026) lists pickup location and destination as separate entries you set before requesting a taxi in Korea. A card makes the destination entry precise.

Put these items on one screen or sheet of paper:

  1. The business name in Korean, as written on its official listing.
  2. The full Korean street address, including the 구 (district).
  3. The branch you selected, by neighbourhood name.
  4. A link to the official or map listing for that branch.
  5. Your pickup point, written the same way.

Take a shopping stop as the example. Say you plan to visit PVRE Pharmacy, listed officially as PURE PHARMACY, for a general conversation with a pharmacist while browsing. The PURE PHARMACY store page lists separate locations in Seongsu (서울특별시 성동구 성수이로20길 3), Myeongdong (서울특별시 중구 명동8길 41) and Jeju. Typing only the English name leaves the branch open. Copying the Korean address of the branch you chose removes that choice from the driver. The listing confirms addresses only; check hours and anything else directly before you go. Questions about customs, tax, flight carriage or a medical diagnosis belong with the relevant authorities and your own clinician. A pharmacy conversation is a separate matter.

Check the pin against the real entrance

The KTO transportation guide (May 2026) lists Kakao Maps and NAVER Maps for driving, walking and public-transport routes plus place information, with multilingual availability. Use one of them to:

  • Search the Korean address, then confirm the returned place name and branch match your card.
  • Zoom in and compare the pin with the building entrance in the listing photos or street view.
  • Look at whether the entrance faces a road. Many shopping areas include pedestrian lanes, and a pin on a lane says nothing about where a car can stop. Pick a drop-off on an adjacent road and plan to walk the last stretch.

That guide doesn't document offline routing or guaranteed live data. Save a screenshot of the pin and address as a backup record; a screenshot gives you no live route.

Set the other choices separately

The VISITKOREA ride-hailing guide treats vehicle type and payment option as their own selections, alongside pickup and destination. It describes paying the driver directly or using in-app autopay. Registration and card compatibility vary, so test the payment setup at your accommodation before you reach the kerb. Review the route estimate the app shows before you confirm. If the end point lands in the wrong district, cancel and re-enter the Korean address.

Don't count on a shared spoken language with the driver. The card does the talking: show the Korean address screen if the driver asks.

Keep ride details for any follow-up

After the trip, keep the in-app ride record and receipt. For taxi service complaints, the Seoul Metropolitan Government taxi page directs passengers to the 120 line and says you'll need the full licence plate number, so note or photograph the plate when you get in. The same page lists five foreign languages with service hours of 09:00 to 18:00 KST and describes international taxi booking through the official service and airport information desk. Confirm current hours and menus there. The 120 line handles routine help and complaints; for an emergency, use emergency services.

Evidence and criteria

  • Documented (KTO, Korea): ride-hailing apps separate pickup, destination, vehicle type and payment; payment can go to the driver or through autopay.
  • Documented (KTO guide, May 2026): Kakao Maps and NAVER Maps provide routes and place information with multilingual options.
  • Documented (Seoul city): complaints go to 120 with the full plate number; foreign-language hours 09:00 to 18:00 KST.
  • Documented (PURE PHARMACY site): branch addresses in Seongsu, Myeongdong and Jeju only. It provides no hours, stock, prices, staff languages or drop-off points.
  • Editorial suggestion: the destination card, pin check and adjacent-road drop-off are our trip-organization advice. No fares, waiting times or driver language skills are claimed.
